Deepsea Rising

Deepsea Rising is a limited edition of 100. The 22mm diameter canvas of sapphire bears an 18k gold fractal image. This is framed by a finding of 18k gold and platinum. The outer platinum band brilliantly displays five sapphires, and sixteen 2mm diamonds. Mounted on the crest of the platinum band is a 3mm diamond. The piece is designed with the versatility to be worn as a pendant or a brooch. Each piece comes in a hand-made silk and satin presentation purse, with a descriptive booklet, certificate of authenticity, your choice of gold or platinum chain, and a premium Bausch & Lomb 7x Hastings triplet jeweler's loupe, so that you can fully appreciate the fractal's incredible detail.

The Deepsea Rising Fractal in Detail

Deepsea Rising is the first offering in a series of fractal jewelry designed around an oceanic theme. The fractals in the Deepsea series are taken from deep within a region of abstract mathematical space known as "Seahorse Valley," which has been described as the "most beautiful part of the most beautiful set in mathematics." Patterns from this area of the famous Mandelbrot set are selected as a woodcarver would choose part of a tree, based on the variety of detail and overall symmetry. We then work extensively on the forms "by hand" to separate, refine, and emphasize the most striking characteristics with a wide range of graphics software and custom programming. This work is guided by an ongoing dialog with the designers and sculptors who create the findings and settings into which the designs will be placed. Each finished piece combines the wild, natural beauty of a fractal with the inspiration and skill of human artists to create an experience of infinity that neither nature nor humanity could shape alone.
